biography
Beginnings
After graduating from school, Ty Herndon, who came from a poor family with many children, moved to Nashville to start a career as a country singer. He initially got by with odd jobs , including appearances at the Opryland amusement park and winning a talent competition. A contract with a record company did not materialize. After ten long years, he gave up and left Music City.
Career
His next stop was Dallas , and here he was luckier. He quickly made a name for himself in the local club scene and was named "Texas Entertainer of the Year" in 1993. He returned to Nashville, where he was soon able to sign a contract with the Epic label. His first single What Mattered Most reached number 1 in the country charts in 1995. The album of the same name, produced shortly afterwards, was also successful. The breakthrough was achieved, but there were personal problems: He was arrested for drug possession and attracted attention as an exhibitionist. A five-year suspended sentence was the result. The scandals did not affect his career. Another single, Living in a Moment , hit the top of the country charts. The same happened two years later with It Must Be Love .
His streak of success lasted until 1999 when the album Steam was released . Sales were poor and Epic's contract wasn't renewed. Ty Herndon switched to a smaller label, where in 2003 the Christmas album Not So Silent Night was released. In 2006 he received another record deal, this time with Universal . In January 2007 his album "Right About Now" was released.
In 2014, Herndon came out - on the same day as his colleague Billy Gilman - as homosexual.
