Badenoch and Strathspey
Badenoch and Strathspey was created in 1975 as a one of the eight council disricts of the Highland local government region of Scotland. As such it consisted of the traditional areas of Badenoch and Strathspey, plus Grantown-on-Spey (which has history as a Scots-speaking enclave in an otherwise Gaelic-speaking area). The district council was wound up when Highland Region became a Council Area area in 1996.
The area is still in use as one of the eight administrative areas of Highland Council, which maintains area committees named for each of the former districts. See List of Highland Council wards and councillors.
