action
In the world ruled by magic, the peoples of light and darkness were separated from one another by an infinitely deep rift that split the earth as a result of the war thousands of years ago. The land of Celenheim is rich and thriving. It forms an enclave of righteousness and order, surrounded by the disfigured and barren wastelands of darkness, the war-torn plains of the so-called Outlands. Over the centuries, however, the deep rift began to close again, and skirmishes between the powers of light and darkness along the border areas soon became commonplace. Now it is only a matter of time before these disputes turn into a merciless war.
Celenheim is fighting for survival. A group of men and women are sent on a perilous journey in the hope of saving the enclave from destruction. Their adventure takes them through hostile territory in search of the people of Meckelon, their ancient ancestors, from whom they were separated long ago. Perhaps they will find in them the help they so desperately need.
But Mordessa, the dark and mysterious leader of the Outlands, plans to bring the old demon Vatar, who was then responsible for the division of the world, back from the depths of the underworld in order to claim the magical lands of Celenheim. To do this, she sends out her servants to acquire an artifact of forbidden knowledge that has hitherto been hidden from humanity: the book of souls. With the contents of the book, she would have the key to the underworld and powers beyond the ability of mortals.
Game mechanics
Enclave is an action game that you control from a third person perspective . The main aspect is to use different weapons like swords, axes, bows or even explosives as well as spells to pave your way through the individual levels through various opponents. Between the individual areas, the player can buy new equipment such as weapons, armor and healing potions.
At the beginning of the game, the player can choose one of the two sides, that of light or darkness, and also choose a character class that has different advantages and disadvantages, special skills and access to different weapons and armor.
Depending on which side you choose, you have different tasks to do in the relatively linear, consecutive levels or you can even explore completely different areas. In addition, you are mainly confronted with opponents who belong to the other side.
Side of light
- Knight
- The knights are strong warriors whose bravery on the battlefield and qualities in hand-to-hand combat are unsurpassed. If the knights are also superior to others in this regard, their skills in magic and in combat at great distances are practically non-existent, which is why they usually resort to sword and shield as well as heavy armor.
- huntress
- The Aylewood Slayers are faster with their bow than anyone, maybe faster than the Ark Moor assassins from the Outlands. The elves have a natural visual acuity that far surpasses that of the other races.
- Druid
- The Druids are a secret order who live in seclusion and independent of the high council of the enclave. They have a keen sense for disturbances in the balance of nature, and the Outlanders are the greatest disturbance of all. In order to restore this balance, the druid primarily resorts to her natural magic.
- Halfling
- The halflings have always remained loyal to the elves of Celenheim and are often used as scouts or spies. They are very fast and agile and, despite their small size, can inflict serious injuries on their enemies. Despite everything, they lack physical strength.
- engineer
- The gnomes are the artisans, workers, and engineers of the population, and their craftsmanship is second to none. But as much as they are creatively gifted, they also display just as much talent when it comes to destroying things.
- wizard
- The wizards are powerful elementalists who have a wide range of devastating spells at their disposal. On the other hand, the wizards are also physically weak and almost defenseless when they are involved in hand-to-hand combat.
Side of darkness
- Assassin
- Ark Moor's assassins have been bred for generations and are trained extremely rigorously. In combat, they don't rely on strength, but on their treachery and accuracy with the bow.
- sorceress
- The sorceresses have the most powerful attack powers of all beings in the Outlands, but are clearly inferior in close combat and can only wear light armor.
- Berserk
- The berserkers form the front line of the Outland armies. Their size, strength, and martial arts make them perfect fighting machines, but this is their only asset as they are not endowed with a high level of intelligence.
- Goblin
- The goblins are small, but wickedness makes up for their small size. They are excellent scouts because of their considerable dexterity.
- Bombardier
- The Bombardiers are made up of the craziest, most disturbed fanatics on the continent. Their main task is the sabotage and demolition of enemy facilities including the enemies themselves. The qualities of the bombardiers in close combat are rather average. Their real strength lies in planting bombs and setting deadly traps.
- Lich
- The lichs are undead magicians who are controlled by the high council of Ark Moor with their captive souls. They use an assortment of devastating necromantic spells against their enemies.
Reviews
Paul Kautz from 4Players describes Enclave as a “difficult, varied and wonderful fantasy slaughter festival.” However, he criticized “the practically non-existent interaction possibilities and somewhat sterile levels as well as the storage system”. The presentation is "breathtaking, graphics and sound are at the highest level", overall result: 82%
Dirk Gooding from PC Games thinks that Enclave is "a lot of fun" thanks to the exciting campaigns and interesting characters. It “doesn't just look top-class on older computers and still runs extremely smoothly. The control and the distribution of the save points were also "significantly improved" for the PC version. "However, he criticized" the poor pathfinding of the opponents or the sometimes bumpy animations ", overall result 79%
