Central Uruguay Railway Cricket Club, known as CURCC, but always unofficially known as Peñarol because of the neighbourhood where it was established, was a Cricket and association football club from Uruguay, founded on September 28, 1891 in Montevideo, the country's capital. CURCC was the result of the decision of the British railway company in Uruguay to have a sports club. Because of this fact, the colours of the club were inspired by those of the railway signs.
The club had important achievements in the 1890s and the first decade of the twentieth century, being one of the founders of the Uruguayan League and the AUF.
In 1913 conflicts between the Central Uruguay Railway administrators and the football section directives, led to the breakaway of some members that established Club Atlético Peñarol in 1913, taking the unofficial name of the CURCC (Peñarol) as its official name and estabishing it as a purely uruguayan football club by using the name of the uruguayan neighbourhood.
Although CURCC and Peñarol coexisted for two years, until the dissolution of the aforementioned institution and traspassing of the managers, players, titles, trophies, and all of its sports facilities and equipment to Peñarol in 1915, they never played against eachother because CURCC rarely played any matches in that period.
Because all of this important and extensivley documented facts the Club Atlético Peñarol is officially recognized by FIFA as the succesor of CURCC and all of its achievements and its founding date rightfully belong to Peñarol.
