Charles Read is a British mathematician and currently a professor of mathematics at the University of Leeds. He works in the area of functional analysis, and is most famous for his work in the 1980s on the invariant subspace problem, where he showed that there do exist operators on certain Banach spaces which have no non-trivial invariant subspace.

He completed his PhD entitled 'Some Problems in the Geometry of Banach Spaces' at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Béla Bollobás.
