Cycas sphaerica (also called, Cycas spherica[2]) is a plant mainly found in Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa and Tamil Nadu. The species grow on high hills and dry lands and is listed on Appendix II of the CITES Appendices.[2][3][4]

Cycas spaerica was first mentioned in 1814 by Roxburgh.[3] In 1924, the species was defined a variety of the closely related to C. circinalis by Conservator of Forests for India (1888-1919), Henry Haselfoot Haines (1867-1945).[3]
