Jay Daniel is an electronic musician, producer, and DJ from Detroit, Michigan, United States. While building and managing his own label, Watusi High, Jay has also released music on Sound Signature, Wild Oats, and most recently released his debut album, 'Broken Knowz' on Ninja Tune.[1][2]
Career
In September of 2013, Jay released his first EP, "Scorpio Rising", on Detroit legend Theo Parrish's label, Sound Signature. Only months later, in February of 2014, Daniel released yet another EP, "Karmatic Equations" (WOJD01), on fellow Detroit native Kyle Hall's label, Wild Oats.[3] In May of 2015, Jay launched his very own label, 'Watusi High', beginning with the release of his two-track "School Dance" EP.[4] After 3 years of creative build-up, Jay Daniel released a much anticipated debut LP on Ninja Tune; that release, titled 'Broken Knowz', has been met with critical acclaim.[5][6][7][8]
As a DJ, Daniel tours globally, curating musical sets for radio and venue audiences alike, from DEMF, to Boiler Room and Red Bull Music Academy, to guest-featuring on BBC Radio One.[9][10] Jay Daniel is considered by many to be among his generation's leading selectors and musical curators, featured in night clubs and festivals worldwide.[11][12][13] Jay has frequently collaborated with fellow Detroiter, Kyle Hall, and London's Funkinevin (Steven Julien).[13][14]
