John Ehret High School

Wayne attended John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana, where he was a two-sport standout in both football and track. In football, he was a two-time All-State honoree, and as a senior, caught 50 passes for 930 yards (18.6 yards per reception average) and 10 touchdowns. In track, he ran the 200-meter dash and various relays.

University of Miami and Indianapolis Colts

Wayne was drafted by the Colts out of the University of Miami with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft. After the 2005 season he was going to be a free agent, but Indianapolis signed him to a 6-year $39.5 million contract.

Family tragedies

Wayne lost his older brother, Rashad, in a car accident. Rashad Wayne, who was 32 years old, died when his delivery truck crashed into a highway guardrail in Louisiana, just days before Reggie Wayne had a breakthrough performance against the New York Jets.
