Survivor: Fiji is the name of the fourteenth season of the Emmy award winning Survivor reality television series. Applications were due June 16, 2006 [1]. In late July and early August about 800 applicants were selected for an interview by CBS. Out of those 800, about 48 semi-finalists were selected to go to Los Angeles during September 2006. From these semi-finalists, about 16 were selected to participate in the show between late October and December 2006. It is being filmed in Fiji. It Was Confirmed On the Survivor:Cook Islands Finale that there will be 19 contestants. [2] [3]

The two tribes will be divided where one will live in luxury, while the other tribe will have nothing. Castaways will include a lawyer, and even a homeless street performer. In addition, with Exile Island coming to play for the third time, and with lots of snakes there, there will be two hidden immunity idols and a twist that could have people talking about it.

Political Turmoil in Fiji

On December 5th, 2006 (approximately 2 days before the final tribal council), a coup d'état was started by Fiji's military leader, Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama. While there was some speculation that a full evacuation of the Survivor crew members from Fiji would take place, only a few crew members on the mainland were relocated to the second smallest island, Suva.
