The '''Ahuru''' (''Auchenoceros punctatus'') is a small deepwater fish, the only fish of the genus '''''Auchenoceros''''', found on the east coast of [[New Zealand]]. Its length is about 13 centimetres.


The '''ahuru''' (''Auchenoceros punctatus'') is a species of [[morid cod]] found in waters off the eastern coast of [[New Zealand]] and to the south as well as in the [[Cook Strait]]. It is found at depths from {{convert|5|to|420|m|ft|abbr=on}}. This species grows to {{convert|13|cm|in|abbr=on}} in [[fish measurement|total length]]. It is the only known species of its [[genus]].
It has a blunt snout, and a first [[dorsal fin]] reduced to a single elongate ray that overlaps the origin of the second dorsal fin.

The colour is a uniform pale pink-white. They are found over sand and mud bottoms in inshore waters around much of New Zealand.

The ahuru (Auchenoceros punctatus) is a species of morid cod found in waters off the eastern coast of New Zealand and to the south as well as in the Cook Strait. It is found at depths from 5 to 420 m (16 to 1,378 ft). This species grows to 13 cm (5.1 in) in total length. It is the only known species of its genus.
