Bastiaan Johannis (Bas) van der Vlies (born 29 June 1942 in Sliedrecht) is a former Dutch politician of the Reformed Political Party (SGP). He was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands from 10 June 1981 until 17 June 2010. However, this does not make him the longest serving MP, Duymaer van Twist served for almost 45 years from 1901. Bas van der Vlies was Parliamentary leader from 22 May 1986 until 10 May 2010 and also Party leader from 22 May 1986 until 27 March 2010. He announced his retirement on 18 December 2009.
Van der Vlies obtained a hydraulic engineering degree from the Delft University of Technology. He worked as a math teacher before becoming a politician.
