Cornelis Gerrit (Kees) van der Staaij (born September 12, 1968 in Vlaardingen ) is a Dutch politician . He is a member of the Staatkundig Gereformeerde Partij (SGP).

Van der Staaij studied at Leiden University and specialized in constitutional and administrative law . Always interested in politics, he joined the SGP in 1986.

After holding various positions in the Raad van State , he was elected to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament in 1998 and has been a member of the Dutch Parliament since May 19, 1998. He has been the party leader since March 27, 2010 and also chairman of the parliamentary group since May 10, 2010 , in both cases as the successor to Bas van der Vlies . This made him the top candidate for the SGP in the Dutch parliamentary elections in 2010 .

Kees van der Staaij has been married to Marlies van Ree since September 1994 and has two adopted children. He is a member of the Old Reformed Churches in the Netherlands and lives in Benthuizen .
