Henry Moore

You're right, I missed that. I'm sorry. I really need to stop leaving snide comments in summaries. The editing documentation is far to copious to memorize entirely, and as long as it all works out in the end, that's all that matters. 24.17.48.241 22:15, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've expanded that stub you wrote on Chester Racecourse and submitted a fact from it to Did You Know?. If you have any photos (not free-use images; they aren't valid on DYK), please upload it. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 20:35, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did You Know?

Updated DYK query Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Chester Racecourse, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Moving pages

Hi. I notice you attempted to move Jonathan Trelawney to Jonathan Trelawny earlier. Unfortunately, you moved this by changing the existing page to a redirect and cutting-and-pasting the original text into the other page; doing this is a problem, as it means that the page history is not known, which causes problems with our copyright licensing under the GFDL - it requires authors are credited.

I've fixed this, by deleting the page you copied it to - it was only a redirect, so not important - and moving the old page to the new spelling. This means the page history moves with it, preventing people from not being credited, and (hopefully) everything's fine.

If you encounter a situation like this in the future, where you can't move a page because of an existing one, please feel free to leave a note at Wikipedia:Requested moves and someone will sort it out.

Hope that makes sense... Shimgray | talk | 22:00, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Borgnearms.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Borgnearms.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 01:02, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Pasty2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Pasty2.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Penwith Wikiproject

Would you be interested in joining out wikiproject on Penwith?. I've been looking through some of your stuff and you seem to know what you're talking about. The plan is to bring all of the Penwith articles up to a decent standard, a maybe get some feature quality article too in time, as at the moment its a bit of a wikipedia backwater, and an embarrassement to the county! There is plenty to do, even if you are not immediately familiar with the local area and we could use someone with your wikiskills! ;) Mammal4 19:14, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thats great I'll add your name to the project page. What needs to be done? I suppose the question is really what are you good at? There is so much work that needs to be done that you can take your pick. All of the parish pages need to be brought up to scratch. I've put a list on the project page, with notes briefly describing what I think is missing - this is a lot as these are mostly stubs still. You could either adopt one of these and flesh it out considerably, or go to each parish and add a common section. reedgunner is our residient local government expert (an ex mayor of Penzance). He is going through all the parishes and added a local government section. The plan is to bring a couple of these pages up to featured article quality, St Buryan is my baby, and where I've put the most work in. Although its still quite a way from FA quality, it might give you an idea of some of the sections that we think all the pages should have; there is also a proposed list of parish headings on the project page. Then there is a list of red links for villages and hamlets that need to be filled in that have no info yet on the projcect page. Any SPAG work is also appreciated, as my spelling isn't great ;) We also need photos for most of the pages -I have added a few, and intend to get out and about in the summer and do a few more, but help is always good! take your pick! Glad to have you on board the Penwith wikiproject Mammal4 12:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Phil - Thanks for joining the Penwith Geography project - Good to see you aboard!! Reedgunner

Restormel

Nice parish map at Restormel. Are you intending to produce a numbered version like that at Penwith. This would not only add consistency, but would also mean we could move the parish list into the infobox and make the article tidier! I'm happy to add the numbers and do the editing if you're not interested - I just didn't want to step in too quickly in case you were in the process of doing it already! Mammal4 10:45, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've numbered the map. Could you give it a once over if you have time to check that the parishes match up to the numbers (I'm not so familiar with some of them!) Mammal4 20:41, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Barnstar - its nice to feel appreciated! :) Mammal4 21:09, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nav boxes

Nice work with the Nav boxes at Restormel. We should knock up a few for the other districts asap and decide on a consistent format/style for all the boxes. Mammal4 07:41, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I liked yours so I borrowed (edited) them, (hope you didn't mind). I happy to tackle another district. I didnt include George flag but thought the Restormel map looked more neutral if you know what i mean ;)

License tagging for Image:Restormel.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Restormel.gif. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:05, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Also, with this image, you tagged it with {{PD-old}}, meaning that the artist has been dead for 100 years. The image itself references the years of the subject's presidency being 1916-1921, which would imply that the artist has not been dead for 100 years. BigDT 00:12, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template:User loves jackrussells

Hi Talskiddy,

As part of the German userbox solution, would you be willing to move "Tempate:User loves jackrussells" to your userspace? If you are but aren't sure about the details, I can do it for you and let you know when the changes are made. Or, I can move it to my userspace, where most of the other pet boxes are located. The biggest difference you'll notice is it won't be listed at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Pets, which is in the process of being userfied. However, it still will be listed at the larger directory, User:Rfrisbie/Userboxes/Pets. Let me know what you think. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 18:38, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ginst.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ginst.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Notability of Ralph Dunstan

A tag has been placed on Ralph Dunstan, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Realkyhick 08:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Goldens.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Goldens.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 16:28, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cornish Rebellions

Would it be a good idea to have an article on Cornish Rebellions, not just listing them but with commentary, for instance, on the effect of their supression, on the number of speakers of the Cornish Language? This could be linked in the "Background ... " para of the "Jacobite uprising .." article. Vernon White . . . Talk 16:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You replied:

The problem here is that some rebellions involved other counties (Devon and Somerset), and quite often there were Cornish people on opposing sides hence I used the term 'Cornish involvement'. There is certainly alot of material on the subject but a title for an article may prove tricky.

.

Perhaps we could put the suggestion on the WikiProject:Talk page, unless you think its a really silly idea. I don't think the list of previous rebellions on the "Jacobite uprising .." article is particularly useful. If its worth mentioning them then they might be mentioned in the Background paragraph. Speedy deletion of Thomas Tonkin

A tag has been placed on Thomas Tonkin, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD a1.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Hi. Could you cast your mind back 16 months please? You added the following sentence to Canal inclined plane, back in June 2006:

On some canals an inclined plane was used just to the transfer the loads up or down to the boats on a rail system.

An editor has queried this on the article's talk page, as it is a little difficult to work out exactly what you meant.

Having seen that you edit a lot of Cornwall-related articles, I was wondering if you were actually writing about a tub boat lift, or the tub boat variant of an inclined plane.

Anyway, if you could take another look, that would be useful, thanks.

EdJogg 23:17, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for responding. I have taken out the sentence as it's not really clear what form the inclined plane took, so it is difficult to clarify the meaning. If it was used with tub boats, then it was effectively the same as the others on that system. If it just transported goods for further transhipment, eg on flat trucks, then it is more like a funicular railway. Either way the sentence doesn't quite fit into the article.

River Gannel - Gannal crake

Happy St Columba Day from St Columb Minor! (I live in St Germans but am staying with me Gran).I spent much of my childhood at what was then Trethellen Farm on the Pentire side (ie long before that estate was built in the 80's). My mother and grandmother also grew up there. Anyway, the Gannel crake is probably a congar eel - I remember when I was about 7 returning from mucking about on the Ada, running across the wooden footbridge to beat the incoming tide, when a conger about the thickness of a man's arm and about 5' long wrapped itself around my ankles. It did seem like I'd been attacked by a kraken at the time though and Gran said the same thing had happened to her sister years before Plutonium27 13:24, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Dividingplunder.jpg

I have tagged Image:Dividingplunder.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dividingplunder.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Dividingplunder.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 00:31, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please read this regarding image rationales

I did this change because there is no rationale for that article here. The same applies to this change I did as well. In accordance with WP:NFCC, the image cannot be put on any articles that there is not a corresponding rationale for. I suggest you read item 10c of WP:NFCC.--Rockfang (talk) 13:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added Fair use rationale is that enough or am i missing something?? Talskiddy 08:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Talskiddy, hope you are well. I've added non-free use templates to those images, which should sort it out. I've removed tham from the artist article, I think that album art is meant only to be used on the article about the album. Hope this helps! DuncanHill (talk) 15:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Duncan, thanks for your help. It really pees me off when someone suddenly comes along as says this will be deleted etc instead of helping to fix it. many thanks. Phil Talskiddy

I know that feeling well! DuncanHill (talk) 22:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ellerta5222707822137640.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ellerta5222707822137640.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:25, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Nine Maidens stone row

A tag has been placed on Nine Maidens stone row requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. LunaRain~ 19:20, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Why dont you give me a bloody chance to write it!
Use the hangon tag - I agree that the subject seems valid. Another solution is to create a sandbox for yourself and work on new articles in there in peace. Mjroots (talk) 19:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
