Restormel ( Cornish : Rostorrmoel ) was a district with the status of a borough in the county of Cornwall in England ; it was named after the castle Restormel Castle . The administrative seat was the city of St Austell . Another important place is Newquay .

The District was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of Borough St Austell with Fowey, Urban District Newquay and Rural District St Austell. On April 1, 2009, in addition to Restormel, all other districts in Cornwall were abolished and merged into a single unitary authority.

Restormel's German partner group is Dithmarschen .

Parishes

At the time of the dissolution of the district its territory included 24 municipalities ( Parish )

The St Austell area was an unparished area outside of these structures. It was not until the dissolution of the district in 2009 that there were four parishes, in addition to St Austell itself, Carlyon , Pentewan Valley and St Austell Bay .
