Roche (Cornwall)

Roche (/ ɹəʊtʃ /, Cornish : Tregarrek ) is a civil parish and village in central Cornwall , England. The name of the village comes from the Norman word roche for rock and refers to the 20 meter high Roche Rock , a large granite bit , located on the northern edge of the village . On the top of Roche rock is the ruin of the holy is Michael consecrated chapel . It is associated with the legend of Tristan and Isolde .
The parish church of Roche is dedicated to St. Gonandus. The tower dates from the Middle Ages , the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1822. The Norman baptismal font and the cemetery cross are worth seeing .
Roche can be reached via the stop of the same name on the Atlantic Coast Line from Par to Newquay .
