Miał łączyć funkcję selekcjonera i opiekuna nafciarzy.

In 1990 he returned to Poland, where he continued to coach until 2014.<ref name=IN/> From 1992 to 1994 he coached the [[Poland men's national handball team]]. W 2003 r. Bogdan Kowalczyk zastąpił w Płocku Edwarda Kozińskiego i zdobył z Wisłą wicemistrzostwo i mistrzostwo Polski. Ten ostatni tytuł nie przekonał jednak włodarzy płockiego klubu, którzy postanowili go zwolnić. Podczas ostatniego treningu pożegnał się z zawodnikami. Podał każdemu rękę, powiedział "dziękuję". I to wszystko.

A jakie zadania przed nim postawiliśmy? Zrobimy to w lipcu.

To nas wzmocniło. Czasem w trochę chamski sposób musiałem to robić, ale oni go przyjęli. Jeszcze nie doskonale, ale realizują zadania. Jest po prostu coraz lepiej.
