Cueshe [Pronounced Kyu-shey.] is a band that originally came from Cebu in the Philippines.

Background

Long before Cueshé became the toasts of the music scene came years of struggle and hard work. Like the time back in their hometown of Cebu when they had to compromise their music for gigs. Or the trying times when Jay figured in an accident. To make ends meet, Mike sold cigarettes, Fritz drove a passenger jeepney with Jovan as his assistant. Or the moment they left Cebu and set foot in Manila, living together in a small apartment thriving on canned goods and noodles. Add the skeptics and detractors who called them a "one hit wonder, a "phony" and mere sell-out.

However, like the simple banana cue which served as their constant companion during their moments of trials, life became sweeter for the band as they remain unmoved and fully concentrated on their music.

And with that everything came into place. Hit singles ("Stay," "Sorry." "Ulan," "Can’t Let You Go" and "24 Hours."), a double platinum album ("Half Empty, Half Full"), accolades (Favorite Artist, Favorite Group and Favorite Song—for the song "Stay" at the 1st MYX Music Awards; SMART Texters’ Choice Hitmaker of the Year at the 2006 MTV Pilipinas Awards; Band of the Year at 2006 SOP PasiklaBand Awards; Best Breakthrough Artist at 2005 SOP Music Awards), sold-out gigs and concerts—all achieved in a span of one year.

Less than a year later, the band released it's sophomore album, "Back To Me."

The new album is set to validate the band's status as one of the best in the country as they unleash their musical talents anew with ten new tracks, all of which were written by the bandmembers themselves; and a re-make of the John Lennon-original "Jealous Guy," them being big fans of the Beatles.

Controversies

Several controversies have arisen about them supposedly plagiarizing songs by other bands for their own, though this has yet to be proven. Most cite that the opening chords of "Stay" are very similar to Simple Plan's "Perfect" and the first two lines of the chorus of the same song are very similar (to the point of being considered a tonal rip-off by some) to Silverchair's "the Greatest View". There have been no legal issues about this, however.

This has caused a wave of negative backlash. In the 2005 NU Rock Awards, the band was booed by the crowd when their name was announced as a nominee for one of the awards. Meanwhile, some Cebuano artists and DJs have reportedly disowned the band as part of the Cebu music scene.
