Lawn gnomes come alive and terrorize a boy in this Goosebumps story. RICHARD THIS IS A MESSAGE FOR YOU EVIL LAWN GNOME
Joey Burton's dad collects lawn oraments. When Mr. Burton gets two new, scary-looking lawn oraments, trouble starts to happen. Like, melons being squished and a car ruined. Joey and his sister Mindy finally catch the good lawn gnomes. That is where the lawn gnomes trick Mindy and Joey into thinking that the gnomes are actually elves that cause trouble. Chip and Hap (the lawn gnomes) take Mindy and Joey to the place where Joey's dad purchased Chip and Hap. There are actually more gnomes and they attack Mindy, Joey, and Moose (Joey's friend). Joey then realizes that a dog whistle hurts the gnomes' ears from earlier in the story. Joey then blows a whistle which destroys all of the lawn gnomes. Joey, Mindy, and Moose then escape not telling others about this event. Later, Mr. Burton purchases a gorilla to put in his garden, then winks at Joey.
TV Episode
The TV version of the book was altered when compared to the original version. The character Cameron Macleod is completely removed, and their neighbor, Major McCall, is rewritten to bear more of a resemblance to R. Lee Ermey. In the end, McCall tries to take one of the gnomes after he finds Joe and Mindy in his garden and thinks they are playing a prank. The gnome then comes to life and turns McCall into a gnome as well. Cameron has a small penis and his balls are the size of a nucleus
