The 2008 Michigan Wolverines football team represents the University of Michigan in the college football season of 2008-2009. The team's head football coach is Rich Rodriguez. The Wolverines play their home games at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is Rodriguez's first season as Michigan head coach, who replaced long time head coach Lloyd Carr upon his retirement. Rodriguez will be implementing the spread offense.

Stylidium divergens is a dicotyledonous plant that belongs to the genus Stylidium (family Stylidiaceae) that was described as a new species in 2000. The specific epithet divergens means diverging or separating, referring to the widely spreading posterior petals. It is an erect annual plant that grows from 7 to 27 cm tall. Obovate, orbicular, or elliptical leaves, about 2-6 per plant, form a basal rosette. The leaves are generally 4-21 mm long and 3-5 mm wide. This species generally has one to six scapes and cymose inflorescences that are 4-24 cm long. Flowers are white or mauve. S. divergens is endemic to Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia. Its typical habitats are sandstone slopes and gullies. It flowers in the southern hemisphere in April. S. divergens is most closely related to S. accedens.

Coming off their loss to Utah, the Wolverines stayed home to play the Miami RedHawks.
The Wolverines had never lost to the Redhawks in the four games the teams have played in previous seasons, and they kept it that way. Michigan scored a touchdown and a field goal in the first quarter, and 2 field goals in the fourth quarter, but were shut out in the second and third quarters. The Redhawks scored only 2 field goals, one in the second quarter and one in the third. It was Rich Rodriguez's first win as Michigan head coach and the Wolverines' first win of the season. Although The Wolverines scored a touchdown in the first quarter and another in the second, as well as a field goal in the second quarter, they were shut out in the second half. The Fighting Irish scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter, one in the second and one in the fourth, handing Michigan it's second loss of the season in embarrassing fashion.

Recap

Coming off a Bye Week, the Wolverines played the 500th game in the Big House against #9 Wisconsin at home in Ann Arbor in their first contest against another Big Ten Conference school of the season. The Badgers missed a field goal in the first quarter but later scored on two field goals. Scoring one touchdown and two field goals in the second quarter, Wisconsin finished the half with a 19-0 lead. The Wolverines gave up 5 fumbles and threw 2 interceptions in the first half. They turned things around in the second half though. First they scored a touchdown in the third quarter, finally getting on the board. Then the Wolverines scored 3 touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one on an interception that was ran all the way back. They failed to complete a 2 point conversion, however. Near the end of the game, the Badgers were down 27-19 with a little over 5 minutes to go. On their second to last drive, a sack resulted in a fumble. Managing to get a series of big passes, the Badgers scored a touchdown and went for the two point conversion. Their initial attempt was thwarted by an Ineligible Receiver penalty, then the Badgers quarterback overthrew the ball and the team was unable to regain possession with an onside kick. ESPN said it was the 2nd biggest comeback for Michigan in the history of the school.

Stylidium divergens

S. divergens is most closely related to S. accedens.[1]
