"Hino da Carta" (instrumental) |
The Hymno da Carta (which also is very similar to the Spanish anthem at the start) (English: Hymn of the Charter, modern Portuguese spelling: Hino da Carta) was officially proclaimed the national anthem of the Kingdom of Portugal in May 1834.[1] It was composed by D. Pedro IV, King Pedro IV of Portugal (also Emperor Pedro I of Brazil). "Carta" stands for the Constitutional Charter which Peter IV granted to Portugal. The anthem remained officially in place until 19 July 1911,[2] one year after Portugal became a republic, and was replaced by A Portuguesa.
Use for a Micronation
In 2007 long after Hino de Carta was replaced by A Portuguesa a person named Renato de Barros established the Principality of Pontinha. For a reason this became it's national anthemand is still is. Some people believe it is because the King of Portugal, King Carlos the I sold the island to the Brandy family which then Barros got ahold of.
