Sid is a fictional character from the movie Ice Age and its sequels, Ice Age: The Meltdown and Ice Age 3. He is a ground sloth, but walks and talks like a human in the comedic theme of the films. Sid is portrayed by actor John Leguizamo in both appearances. Sid is talkative and positive, and suffers from a lateral lisp, which makes his "s" and "c" pronouncings rather "wet" or "spitty".

Appearances

Ice Age

When Sid is introduced at the beginning of the film, he has been abandoned by his family (who, he explains got up early to leave him behind), who have left him behind for their migration south. That very morning, he heads off to leave with the migrating crowds alone, but is waylaid when he steps in glyptodont dung. By cleaning his paws with some edible leaves, he angers a pair of brontotheres that try to kill him. As he tries to escape them, he meets Manny, a gigantic wooly mammoth and sticks with him, much to Manny's annoyance. The two later find a human infant, who Sid is determined to get back to its "herd". Manny is not as glad to bring the baby along, but eventually accepts it as the two go on their "quest". They also meet and befriend Diego the Smilodon, and by the end of the movie the three give the baby back to the humans and leave as friends, starting their own unique herd.

Ice Age: The Meltdown

In the second film, Sid is trying to find respect among other creatures by running a day camp, but due to his goofy personality, fails there. Sid, Manny and Diego later notice that the icecaps are melting, and flee to a "boat", a giant hollowed-out log on the other side of the valley they all live in. On the way, the Sid notices that Diego is afraid of water, and after they meet Ellie, a female mammoth and Crash and Eddie, two opossum twins. Sid and Diego seem to be the ones who realize Manny's feelings towards Ellie. Sid is eventually taken away by a group of "mini-sloths" who claim him to be the "fire king", as Sid learned how to make fire via flint in Ice Age. He makes it back to his friends telling them this, but they do not believe him, believing it to be a dream. After surviving the flood at the end of the movie, Sid meets the mini-sloths again along with Diego, who tells them that Sid will remain with his own "herd".
