Nintendocore, also known as Gamecore and Ataricore is a genre of music inspired by the music or soundtracks which accompany 8-bit video games, most notably those on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It is characterized by the intensity of metalcore music joined with keyboard parts that sound similar to 8-bit video game music/chiptunes but is occasionally remixed techno variations of old NES video game themes. The term Nintendocore was jokingly coined by Nathan Winneke, lead singer of HORSE the band.[citation needed]

Other Nintendo Fusion

Although not strictly Nintendo, Aphex Twin released a hardcore-esque single in 1993 using sounds from the original Pac-Man.

Hella's "The D. Elkan" is also a classic example of Nintendocore music. Several of their other songs incorporate the use of an 8-bit synthesizer.
