Saumur is a French wine region located in the Loire Valley. The region is noted for sparkling wines produced by the traditional method, and for red wines made primarily from Cabernet Franc. The main variety in the white wines is Chenin Blanc. Exploring this delightful region, so rich in wines, history and architecture, can be best appreciated by staying in one of the region's most charming and elegant chateaux, the Château de Beaulieu [1] which stands on the south bank of the Loire River just outside the vibrant tourist town of Saumur and right beside the renowned winery of Gratien & Meyer [2].
