Stefania Dovhan (born 1979) is a Ukrainian-American soprano.

Early life and education

Dovhan was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. She studied voice at the Baltimore School for the Arts and the University of Maryland College Park. [1]

Career

Dovhan was a member of the International Opera Studio in Nuremberg, Germany during the 2004-2005 season where she debuted as Musetta in La Boheme.

She has performed roles such as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and as Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaffat the Theater Hagen in Germany. She also appeared as Olympia in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Adina in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Cleopatra in Handel’s Giulio Cesare and Violetta in La Traviata.

In 2009, she made her North American debut in the title role of Gustav Charpentier’s Louise at the Spoleto Festival USA 2009 and made her New York City Opera debut that same year as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. [2]

Awards

She took first prize at the Emmerich Smola Competition in 2007. Dovhan was in the finals of the Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition held in Vienna in 2006 and in 2007 she was a finalist in the Plàcido Domingo Operalia Competition held in Paris. [3]
