Santa Clara, New York

Santa Clara is a town located in Franklin County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 395.

The Town of Santa Clara is in the southwest part of the county and is within the Adirondack State Park.

History

The Town of Santa Clara was formed from part of the Town of Brandon in 1888.

Geography

Santa Clara is the second largest town in the county. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 496.6 km² (191.7 mi²). 453.3 km² (175.0 mi²) of it is land and 43.2 km² (16.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.71% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 395 people, 155 households, and 119 families residing in the town. The population density is 0.9/km² (2.3/mi²). There are 953 housing units at an average density of 2.1/km² (5.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.20% White, 0.25% African American, 1.77% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.76% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 155 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.6% are non-families. 20.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 31.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 110.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $42,083, and the median income for a family is $45,750. Males have a median income of $30,000 versus $24,688 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,683. 7.4% of the population and 8.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.5% of those under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

South Saranac Lake -- A lake in the southwest corner of the town.
Spring Cove -- A hamlet near the west town line.
