C.C (シー・ツー, Shī Tsū) (also known as C2) is one of the central characters in the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion anime series by Sunrise. Her Japanese seiyuu is Yukana while she is voiced by Kate Higgins in the English dub.

C.C. released from the capsule

She was first seen in the first episode where she emerged, bound, from the fake gas capsule seized by the Japanese rebels. She then saved the show protagonist, Lelouch Lamperouge from the Britannian soldiers by taking the shot intended for him, resulting in her being shot in the head. When Lelouch thought that she was dead, C.C suddenly touched his hand and transported him to a mysterious plane, within which she proposes to him a contract, offering him the mythical power of Geass which allows the user to control people's actions.

She reappeared in episode 5, where she was folding origami with Nunnally, much to the surprise of Lelouch, who had just returned home. When Lelouch donned on the mask of Zero, she passively oversaw Lelouch's missions to ensure that he did not die, often going as far as wearing his clothes and impersonating him when situations became life-threatening.

C.C. is a member of The Order of the Black Knights, but her willful attitude and lack of an official posting ended up annoying several veterans; at one point, Tamaki went so far as to accuse her of being a member only because she's Zero's lover, a claim which she coldly denied. When Lelouch headed to Kyūshū to battle the Chinese-supported rebellion, C.C. co-piloted the Gawain Knightmare Frame with him, apparently handling the actual piloting while Lelouch operated the weapons.

She also has a strong penchant for pizza, especially Pizza Hut's, much to Lelouch's (whose credit card she frequently uses to buy the food) exasperation. In episode 25, when Lelouch learned that Nunnally was kidnapped by V.V, they took the Gawain Knightmare Frame to Kaminejima to search for his kidnapped sister, but fell into a trap that reveals part of C.C.'s memories to Lelouch. These memories seem to focus on traumatic experiences, such as having been killed repeatedly throughout history. Her earliest memories include being tortured and killed in witch hunts during the dark ages, likely due to her inhuman abilities and apparent immortality. She tells Lelouch that she's been alive so long she can no longer remember who loves her and who hates her; She has been alone for as long as she can remember. Lelouch replies,

"You're not alone. We are partners. If you are a witch, then I'll become a warlock."

Before anything more can be said, they are attacked by Jeremiah Gottwald, who followed them to Kaminejima. C.C. tells Lelouch to go look for Nunnally while she deals with Jeremiah with a weakened Gawain and gave Lelouch a kiss, much to his surprise. At the end of season one she is falling to the ocean floor while narrating that the spark of Lelouch's actions was the core of human motivation, the desire for just a small amount of happiness.

Character History

C.C. is the one who bestows the power of Geass upon Lelouch, under the condition that he would grant her greatest wish. Her latent abilities to detect individuals with strong Geass abilities caught the interest of Britannia, leading to her being imprisoned and used as a test subject for Britannia's experimentation on immortality.[citation needed]

The former Resistance group stole the fake nerve gas capsule encasing her from the Britannia Army in Area 11, which led to Lelouch's re-encounter with C.C. When Lelouch came into contact with her while she was using image shock on Suzaku, he is accidentally shown parts of her memories, which included a woman with a sigil similar to her own, and hints of a bloody conflict. C.C. has a stigmata under her left breast, which takes the same shape as the sigil on her forehead. She involuntarily revealed her real name to Lelouch in her sleep in episode 11. When left alone, she has sometimes spoken to a previously unknown person through means unknown, which, in episode 23, was revealed to be Marianne, Lelouch's deceased mother, although in episode 19 it appears that she is talking to V.V. as well.

In Episode 25, C.C. triggers a trap set by V.V., causing herself and Lelouch to be submerged in a shock image sequence similar to the one she used on Suzaku. Through this, Lelouch sees memories of her past, including repeated "deaths". One shows C.C. attempting to escape from a World War I-esque battlefield, only to be shot in the forehead. Further memories show her being persecuted as a witch and suffering various forms of torture and/or execution, including burning at the stake, guillotining, and the iron maiden.

C.C. appears to be in her teens, but she actually has been alive for hundreds of years. (In a special feature included in the series' fifth DVD, she and Lelouch discuss Washington's Rebellion, during which she speaks of such people as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin as if she had been close friends with both.) In the past, she appears to have observed Suzaku and Lelouch when they were both children, even interacted with Lelouch at one point - an event he doesn't remember even when they are reunited later.

Skills and abilities

C.C. has impressive regenerative abilities, allowing her to recover from fatal wounds and making her nearly immortal. She cannot use the power of Geass but is immune to its effects. She also has Geass-related or psionic abilities, such as rapidly displaying a series of ominous and chaotic images in another person's mind by direct contact, though it also works through clothing and even a Knightmare Frame. She can also project a hologram of herself that is only visible to selected people, for which the selection criteria are still unknown.
