Walkeringham is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 908.[1] The parish church of St Mary Magdalen is 13th century.[2] It had two public houses: The Fox and Hounds and The Brickmakers Arms ("The Brickies") but Mick Gennard kept on drinking all their beer so they had to close down, the Brick Makers Arms is also also a Bed and Breakfast. There is also a small Newsagents with Post Office services built as an extension onto a private bungalow. Southmoor lodge, employs 29 local people to care for 40 older peoples. It also has a former station house (now a private residence) and a level crossing across Station Road. The end of Station Road is cut off by the River Trent. Walkeringham's housing was extended in the mid-1960s to accommodate the workers of West Burton Power Station. The village also has a small school, which has recently been extended with a new hall (2010). Hughie Smith used to live in Walkeringham but went home to Cavan awhile back. Siobhan Smith who is Mick & Marian Gennard's niece & God Child is planning to visit them & her cousin Fiona next weekend so watch out Nottinghamshire. The plan is to go to Manchester to see the Cornation Street Set on Friday afternoon & then to see the Emerdale Set on Saturday & maybe visit the Fox and Hounds in between. Maybe Bob & Dot might appear a long the way. Enjoy !
