D.A. Evangeline Williamson is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live. The role was originated in 2003 by Renee Elise Goldsberry, until Goldsberry had to leave in 2007 due to contract negotiations not working out.
Williamson arrived in the fictional Philadelphia suburb of Llanview in 2003 and became a popular attorney, initially for con man Mitch Laurence, and later Keri Reynolds, R.J. Gannon's daughter, during a custody dispute against Antonio Vega. It was during this time when she developed a relationship with club owner and con artist R.J. Gannon. After a series of spats with Evangeline concerning her focus on legal work and her closeness with Police Officer John McBain, the two eventually split. Also during this time, Evangeline developed a budding friendship with R.J.'s former sister-in-law, Nora Buchanan.
After the breakup, Evangeline pursued a relationship with John McBain (One Life to Live was the first soap opera to delve into interracial relationships in the 1970s). The two entered relationship vowing not to become serious, but Evangeline soon fell in love with John. The relationship lasted for about a year and ended when he was unable to rid himself of the demons that continue to haunt him (his desire to bring to justice the man that killed his father). John was then pursued by Natalie Buchanan.
Williamson later appealed the conviction of Natalie's ex-husband, Cristian Vega, for the murder of Adriana Cramer's half-brother, Tico Santi, and got him released. Soon afterwards, Cristian and Evangeline began to develop feelings for each other and became lovers.
After representing Todd Manning in the Margaret Cochran murder trial they developed a close friendship. Evangeline was later blinded after glass cut her eyes during a tornado in Llanview. She has since regained her eyesight.
Cristian and Evangeline had a intense relationship that ended abruptly when Evangeline and Todd kissed after he learned that his son was dead. Evangeline tried several times to get Cristian back but he was fed up and he told her that he no longer saw a future with her. Evangeline shared another kiss with Todd and even admitted that there might be something between them, however she was and still is deeply in love with Cristian and could never take the next step with Todd. In April Evangeline and Cristian had a pregnancy scare and they fought briefly when Cristian accused Evangeline of being unsure of who the father was, to which she responded "me and Todd never happened". Currently Evangeline is in a coma after an attack by the 'One Pure People' but Cristian has vowed to tell her how much he loved her and that he wants her back in his life when she awakes.
