ʻEneʻio Botanical Garden

ʻEneʻio Botanical Garden (EBG) is a botanical garden in Tonga . It is the first park of its kind in the country with a compilation of 500 plant species from 100 families and thus also the largest plant collection in the Kingdom of Tonga.

location

The garden is located on the island of Vava'u , only 10 minutes away from the center of Neiafu . The garden comprises 8.9 hectares of private land.

history

The garden was created in 1972 by Haniteli Fa'anunu , the former Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries . After 38 years of experience as an agronomist (including 18 as Director of Agriculture and Food in the government of Tonga), Fa'anunu set himself the goal of conserving rare plants and cultivars while also contributing to education. He offers guided tours and runs the garden with a private beach and a restaurant and campsite with his family.
