Á hljómleikum (simply written "A hljomleikum") is the third album and at the same time the first live album by the Icelandic progressive rock band Þursaflokkurinn , which consists of a concert recording from May 19, 1980 in the Icelandic city of Þjóðleikhúsið.
overview
Live Þursaflokkurinn shows a very musically free side. In addition to a number of pieces from the two studio albums that are relatively faithful to the original, the band plays three previously unreleased pieces which, apart from the vocal passages, consist almost exclusively of improvisations on guitar, keyboard and bassoon.
The first of these, Orðsending, is in the field of new classical music and jazz, while Norður við Íshaf (grasljóð VIII) consists largely of swing elements and Sjónvarpsbláminn of space rock , which is very atypical for the band .
The short rock 'n' roll piece Jón var kræfur karl og hraustur is also very surprising , with bassist Tómas Tómasson taking over the role of band leader and lead singer at the end of the concert.
Re-releases
The LP, which was released in 1980, was first released on CD in 2008 in the Þursar anniversary box , but could previously be downloaded from the Internet for a fee. The original LP is a sought-after collector's item these days.
