Amateur career
Among the amateurs, Acosta's greatest achievement was winning the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2010 in Mayagüez , Puerto Rico.
Professional career
On November 17, 2012, Acosta debuted with a victory by technical knockout in round 3 over his compatriot Alexis Diaz.
He competed against Kosei Tanaka in May 2017 for the WBO World Championship and was unanimously defeated on points.
On December 2 of the same year he boxed against Juan Alejo again for the world title of the association WBO and won by TKo in the 10th round.
