particularities | the highest mountain on Vágar |
Árnafjall (translated: Eagle Mountain ) is the name of a 722 meter high mountain in the northwest of the Faroese island of Vágar . It is the highest mountain on this island, but in a comparison of all 18 islands it is only 37th in terms of height.
Árnafjall is north of the remote, picturesque village of Gásadalur on the west coast of Vágar. The next highest mountain on the island, the 715 meter high Eysturtindur , is not too far away in a south-easterly direction.
On the opposite island of Mykines there is also a mountain called Árnafjall. However, this is only 350 meters high.
