The container ship type Equator is a series that was developed jointly by VEB Warnowwerft and VEB Neptun Werft .
history
Of a total of six ships, four were built between 1985 and 1986 in the Warnemünder ( Equator-WW ) and two from 1986 to 1987 in the Rostock shipyard ( Equator-NW ). The Ruhland was completed in August 1985 as the first ship of the Equator WW . All ships were initially put into service at VEB Deutfracht / Seereederei Rostock and from 1991 chartered or sold. The sale of the Havel country was carried in 1999. Rübeland , most recently as Gema as the Spanish flag, was sold for demolition to India in 2009.

technology
The multi-purpose container ship type was designed for universal use for transporting ISO containers , bulk , general cargo and heavy cargo . The four cargo holds with a total volume of 25,320 m 3 and 23,671 m 3, respectively, can be served by a normal hatch and three double hatches . The variant Equator-WW has container spaces for 696 TEU , the Equator-NW for 812 TEU. Of these, 348 TEU are below deck. Various board cranes and loading booms from 10 t to 125 t load capacity are available as handling equipment for four possible modification variants.
The main drive is a marine diesel engine of the type K 5 SZ 70/125 BL with an output of 7600 kW built under a MAN license by VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock . This means the ship can reach a maximum speed of 16.6 knots. If the power is reduced using a 1250 kVA shaft generator , 16.1 knots are achieved. An 800 kW bow thruster supports the maneuverability of the ship, especially when traveling slowly.
