Bill of 1000 Equatorial Guinea Pesetas

The Equatorial Guinea peseta or peseta guineana was the first currency in Equatorial Guinea after gaining independence from Spain . The peseta was in circulation from 1969 to 1975 and had parity with the Spanish peseta . There were coins of 1, 5, 25 and 50 pesetas and banknotes of 100, 500 and 1000 pesetas. The coins had the same dimensions as the Spanish peseta and were produced by the state mint in Madrid .

In 1975 the peseta was replaced by the ekwele in a ratio of 1: 1.
