Ålandsbanken is a Finnish credit institution with headquarters in Mariehamn, the capital of the autonomous region of Åland . The bank was founded in 1919 by farmers in Åland. Ålandsbanken has been listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange since 1942 . After the nationalization of the Icelandic Kaupthing Bank , Ålandsbanken took over its Swedish business from the Swedish Reichsbank for 388 million Swedish kronor. The former Kaupthing Bank Sverige AB operates today as Ålandsbanken Sverige AB. There are 19 branches on the islands of Åland alone, and Ålandsbanken has 9 further branches on the Finnish mainland and in Sweden.
