The Helsinki Stock Exchange ( Finnish Helsingin Pörssi , Swedish Helsingforsbörsen , operating under the name NASDAQ OMX Helsinki Ltd ) is the stock market in the Finnish capital Helsinki and since 2003 to 100 per cent subsidiary of the NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. , an American-Scandinavian Community Stock Exchange .

The stock exchange is located in a building on Fabianinkatu, which was built in 1911 by the architect Lars Sonck .
The stock index of the Helsinki Stock Exchange is designated as OMX Helsinki 25 (OMXH25). It contains the 25 most traded stocks. The OMXH25 is sometimes still carried under its old name HEX25.
history
The Helsinki Stock Exchange carried out its first transaction on October 7, 1912. It has been a free finance association since its inception. Only in 1984 was it transferred to a cooperative, the new owners of which were banks, dealers, companies and associations. On April 1, 1990, the digital system HETI ( Helsinki Stock Exchange Automated Trading and Information System ) was introduced, which replaced the mechanical trading board that originally dates from 1935. In autumn 1995 the cooperative was transformed into a limited liability company ( Helsingin Arvopaperipörssi ) and in 1997 it merged with various securities companies and associations. In 1997/98 , the exchange bought two derivatives exchanges and merged them with itself to form HEX. In November 1998, HEX merged with Arvopaperikeskus and was renamed Helsinki Exchanges Group Plc . In 2001/02 HEX acquired the majority in the two Baltic stock exchanges in Tallinn and Riga .
On September 3, 2003, HEX Plc merged with OM AB from Stockholm to form OM HEX. A year later it was renamed OMX. Since the takeover by NASDAQ, the exchange is now called NASDAQ OMX Helsinki.
In February 2008, OMX was acquired by NASDAQ .
