The OMX AB was founded in 2003 and was a Scandinavian Community Stock Exchange .
The OMX merged the stock exchanges in Copenhagen , Stockholm , Helsinki , Tallinn , Vilnius , Riga and Reykjavík and was therefore also called the "Nordic Stock Exchange". The Armenian Stock Exchange was also part of the OMX.
The German Stock Exchange and OMX together developed a standard of "Financial Information eXchange" protocol ( FIX protocol ) for communication between market participants and exchanges.
In May 2007 it was announced that NASDAQ was planning a merger with OMX. NASDAQ offered $ 3.8 billion for OMX. Since February 27, 2008, both exchanges have been operated by the NASDAQ OMX Group . In the meantime, the addition OMX has been abandoned and the stock exchanges and the operating company only operate as Nasdaq.
