The Copenhagen Stock Exchange (Danish: Københavns Fondsbørs ) is the most important stock exchange in Denmark . It belongs to OMX and has been operated by the NASDAQ OMX Group since 2008 ; it therefore operates under the name NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen.
History and structure
The first stock exchange building in Copenhagen was built on behalf of King Christian IV and completed in 1624 (see Børsen ). Børsen served as a commodity exchange until the 19th century , and until 1974 it housed the stock exchange.
In 1996 the stock exchange became a stock corporation. From then on, 60 percent of the capital was held by the members, with 20 percent each holding shares and bonds.
In 1997 FUTOP Clearing Center A / S, the Danish trading center for derivatives, became part of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
In 1998 the Copenhagen Stock Exchange merged with the Stockholm Stock Exchange to form the NOREX alliance. Like the other major Scandinavian stock exchanges, the Copenhagen Stock Exchange has been part of OMX since 2008.
Normal trading hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Indices
The OMX Copenhagen 20 is the most important Danish stock index . It consists of the shares of 20 Danish standard values together. The KFX index contains stocks of growing companies in the pharmaceutical, telecommunications, bio and information technology sectors. All stocks traded on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange are combined in the KAX index.
