The l'École Freinet is a primary school in Vence . It was founded around 1933 by Élise Freinet and Célestin Freinet as l'École Moderne . It still exists today as a primary school. There it is still taught according to the principles of Freinet pedagogy .
history
The school opened on October 1, 1933. Founding members were Élise and Célestin Freinet, Élise's mother Julie Lagier-Bruno, Albert Belleudy and Fifine. At that time she had 13 students. In 1936 and 1937, many working-class children and Spanish children were taken in because of the Spanish civil war. In 1940 the school was closed and Freinet was interned for communist propaganda and subversion. In 1946 the school was reopened under the name l'École de Vence . However, Célestin Freinet no longer taught himself. In 1966, the school was renamed as the only elementary school state school and l'École Freinet .
