The water tank Bisamberg the Vienna Waterworks was between the foundation stone was laid on 8 November 1993 and the inauguration on 18 September 1996 both as the first " transdanubischer " (local term for lying beyond the Danube Viennese districts 21 and 22) water tank as well as first erected on a freely accessible area. It is located in Stammersdorf on the eastern slope of the eponymous Bisamberg .

The Bisamberg tank holds 60,000 cubic meters of drinking water in two chambers , which can be used to supply around 100,000 households in Floridsdorf and Donaustadt for around two days in an emergency.

The purpose of erecting the container was to stockpile and thus establish security of supply for the districts of Floridsdorf and Donaustadt on the other side of the Danube , as well as to store drinking water from Vienna's high spring pipelines to cover peak consumption with the associated reduction in pressure fluctuations. The water withdrawal from the Lobau groundwater works can be reduced as a result.

From a technical point of view, the tank is a so-called “counter tank”, which is connected to the pipeline network of the Vienna waterworks only via a single pipe. The construction of the structure including pipelines with a length of 11.6 kilometers cost around 600 million shillings (43.6 million euros) (228 million shillings or 16.6 million euros for the container itself and 372 million shillings or 27 million euros for the pipeline construction) . The construction as a counter-container and the associated omission of a second connection line saved the City of Vienna costs of around 200 million schillings or 14.5 million euros.

The artist Gottfried Kumpf was commissioned with the artistic design of the Bisamberg tank, which is the first and only water tank of the Vienna Water Works that is not fenced and therefore freely accessible . The undulating, curved facade of the container, visible from Brünner Straße, consists of blue-colored concrete and, together with the forecourt, is adorned with figures of fish, mermaids and a water man made of enamelled steel. Gottfried Kumpf's favorite character, the anti-social, is also represented.
