The Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR) is Alsace's art and music college . It has three locations in Strasbourg (art and music) and in Mulhouse (art). It was created in 2011 through the merger of the École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg, the École supérieure d'art de Mulhouse (Le Quai) and the Académie supérieure de musique de Strasbourg.

history

The universities have their own prehistory, so esad as a university of applied arts emerged as early as 1872 from a forerunner as an evening school from 1850. As early as 1828, an École de dessin pour le progrès de l'industrie mécanique et textile was founded in Mulhouse. It was later called Le Quai after its address on the Quai des Pêcheurs. The music academy was established as a municipal conservatory in 1855 on the basis of a donation made in 1839 by a wealthy Strasbourger named Louis Apffel. The conservatory is still under municipal ownership, only the academy is part of the HEAR.

Current situation

In 2014 the university had around 700 students. Despite its small size, it has a large group of international relationships with European and non-European partner universities.
