Étienne de La Vaissière

Étienne de La Vaissière (born November 5, 1969 in Dijon ) is a French historian and orientalist .

Since 2011 he has been Directeur d'Etudes (full professor who holds a chair) at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales , one of the 22 grand établissements . He teaches medieval Central Asian history and specializes in economic and social history of the region from the 4th to 9th centuries, before and after the arrival of Islam .

The main topics of his research are the Sogdians and the invasion by Asian nomadic peoples in the 4th and 5th centuries (see Iranian Huns ).

He is married and has three children.
