Esslingen am Neckar invested 4.2 million euros in the care, building maintenance and renovation of schools and sports halls in 2004. By 2007, 25 million euros should be built.

Universities of applied sciences

  • Esslingen University of Applied Sciences , created in October 2006 from the merger of the two Universities of Esslingen, the Technical College of Technology (FHTE) and the University of Social Sciences (HfS). The later technical college for technology was established in 1868 as a school for mechanical engineers in Stuttgart, was moved to Esslingen in 1914 and continued as a state engineering school. In 1971 this was elevated to a technical college.

Esslingen used to have a vocational college. However, this was integrated into the University of Hohenheim in the 1980s.
