The oil pressure warning light or oil pressure warning light in the car to warn the driver when in the lubrication circuit of the engine , too low oil pressure prevails. Every vehicle with a four-stroke engine is usually equipped with this indicator light. If the display lights up continuously, you must react immediately to prevent engine damage.

Display behavior of the oil pressure warning light and possible causes

  • lights up continuously
    • Oil level way too low
    • Defective oil pump
    • Broken oil line
    • Oil switch or cable to oil switch defective
  • flickers or lights up when cornering, braking or accelerating
    • Oil level low
  • flickers or lights up at low speed
    • Engine very warm (overheated)
    • wrong oil viscosity (too thin)
    • With a new oil pressure switch: incorrect design with a different switching pressure threshold
    • Loose contact in the supply line or speedometer / dashboard
  • does not light up or flashes when the ignition is switched on and the engine is not running
    • Oil pressure warning light defective
    • Oil pressure switch defective
  • Previous engine overheating may have damaged the oil pressure switch
