Oil test paper
Oil test paper is an indicator paper for the detection of hydrocarbons such as petroleum ether , gasoline , heating , lubricating , mineral and petroleum in water or soil. The test strips consist mainly of microcrystalline cellulose . The function is based on the wetting of the paper and the cellulose with the oil, which results in an optically homogeneous and therefore transparent area due to the similar refractive index of the two substances, which makes the deep blue paper background visible.
application
Since oil floats on the surface of the water, the paper should be held on the surface and not immersed. If oil is present, the test paper turns deep blue. A soil sample is tested by pressing the test strip against the sample and rinsing it with clean water. The oil test paper is unsuitable for most vegetable and synthetic oils .
