The Austrian-Mongolian Society "Otschir" ( Mongolian "очир" Нийгэмлэгийн Тухай ) is the friendship society that looks after the diverse interests of the State of Mongolia in Austria .

history

Austria established diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1963. The Austrian embassy in Beijing and an honorary consulate in Ulaan Baatar and the Mongolian embassy in Vienna are responsible . The friendship society is an important partner.

The Austrian Bhutan Society was founded in 1995/95 (association registered on January 10, 1996). The Austro-Mongolian Society wants to promote relations between the two countries in every respect and also to make the country and its problems known in Austria. The name ocir 'thunderbolt' denotes the Vajra (Sanskrit), a symbol of Buddhism.

organization

The registered association is a member of the umbrella association of all Austrian-foreign societies  (PaN).

Franz Greif has been president since 2012. The seat is in Vienna-Liesing  (23rd).

activities

The association runs development promotion projects and has been involved in setting up a therapy center in the remote town of Tunchel in northern Mongolia since 2011 .

The company also looks after Mongolian families in terms of residence and integration. In addition, delegation trips and similar exchange programs as well as lectures and language courses are arranged.

In 2013, the Mongolian Naadam Festival was held for the first time in Austria, on the trotting track in Baden near Vienna. It has taken place annually since then.
