Austrian Society for the History of Computer Science

The Austrian Society for the History of Computer Science (ÖGIG) was founded in Vienna in 1996; its president is currently Veith Risak. The objective of the ÖGIG is to convey and didactics the historical aspects of computer science. A special focus is placed on the processing of the contributions of Austrian computer scientists to computer science and the history of computer science . In cooperation with the Alpen-Adria-Universität in Klagenfurt, the ÖGIG organizes the MEDICHI workshop , a multi-day symposium on the history of computer science, every two years . During this conference, the ÖGIG awards the Wolfgang von Kempelen Prize for the History of Computer Science.

The ÖGIG also operates an archive with materials for Austrian research work on computer science as well as a museum, which also practically conveys the development of Austrian computer science. It is particularly aimed at students and schoolchildren. Among the honorary members is the Austrian computer pioneer Heinz Zemanek , the inventor of the " Mailüfterl ".
