Carl Ludwig von Oesfeld

Carl Ludwig von Oesfeld (born March 4, 1741 in Potsdam , † November 2, 1804 on his winery near Potsdam) was a Royal Prussian Privy Councilor and a German cartographer .

Life

Oesfeld's father Johann Friedrich Oesfeld was a preacher in Berlin and Potsdam , his brother Friedrich Wilhelm was a lawyer in Frankfurt a. O. and later also in Potsdam. Carl Ludwig Oesfeld himself worked as a map draftsman , topographer , military writer and draftsman in the engineering corps . In 1772 he trained Daniel Friedrich Sotzmann . In 1786 he was ennobled together with his brother, and in 1788 he was appointed privy councilor.

In 1801 he had the Pomona Temple built by the 19-year-old Karl Friedrich Schinkel as a gift to his wife on the Pfingstberg near Potsdam, which he owned at the time .

Oesfeld collected maps and copperplate engravings . His son Karl Wilhelm von Oesfeld also worked as a cartographer and topographer.
