The Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV) is an association and has represented the interests of around 1,500 hotel businesses in the city, holiday and corporate hotel sectors since 1953. The ÖHV acts as the largest voluntary interest group on the Austrian and European level, as well as a service organization for its members. In contrast to the chambers , membership is on a voluntary basis.

history

On May 31, 1953, the founding meeting of the Austrian Hotel Association took place in Innsbruck, chaired by the Viennese hotelier Leopold Nedomansky. It had a long history: the “Association of Viennese Hotel Owners” was established as early as 1902; it had to cease its activities in 1938, but resumed immediately after the war ended in 1945. It soon became apparent that an Austria-wide organization was necessary if the primary goal at the time was to be achieved, namely international positioning for high-quality Austrian tourism. Considerations to form a separate professional group “international accommodation trade” within the chamber organization could not be realized. That is why the Viennese hotel owners association was transformed into the association of Austrian hoteliers in 1951 with the aim of gaining members in all federal states. The success of these efforts was confirmed with the re-establishment of the ÖHV two years later.

tasks

The aim of the association's activities has expanded significantly. In the difficult post-war years, the focus was on advising members on the planning and implementation of business and operational measures as well as supporting advertising; today it is also in the sense of an active representation of interests in politics and the public, primarily through press and public relations work Lobbying to help shape the framework conditions for tourism , to monitor and evaluate development trends and to cooperate with tourism organizations, also in the international field. 1991 ÖHV received to conclude collective agreements ( collective bargaining agreement ) awarded.

The member companies also use operational services in marketing and further training in the ÖHV. The services of the ÖHV - which are mainly handled by the subsidiary ÖHV Touristik Service GmbH , which was founded in 1998 - are fundamentally geared towards reducing costs in the companies as well as further training for entrepreneurs and employees. From the Entrepreneur Academy (UNA) to one-day practical seminars, the ÖHV offers training and further education programs for entrepreneurs, department heads and specialists. The continuing education offer is bundled in the ISO-certified ÖHV campus.

In 1966 the ÖHV winter work seminar, which first took place in Bad Gastein in 1959, moved to the Arlberg and was an industry event until 1991 as the "Zürser Woche". Today around 600 hoteliers, tourism professionals, representatives from politics and business as well as journalists take part in the annual ÖHV congress.

Members

With 188,000 beds - which corresponds to two thirds of the capacity in the 4 to 5 star superior hotel industry - and around 60,000 employees, the ÖHV members generate accommodation sales of around 3.5 billion euros. Of the approx. 1,500 members, more than 70% can be assigned to the 5 and 4 star hotel industry and around 15% to the 3 star category. The ÖHV thus mainly represents the upper segment. Of the total of 2,070 5 and 4 star hotels and hotel garrises in Austria, around 45% belong to the ÖHV. 73% of the members come from the holiday hotel industry and 27% from the city hotel industry. At 87% (as in the overall hotel business), the share of private hotels in the ÖHV predominates, while group hotels have 13% of the members. All ÖHV members are listed in the online membership directory at MeinHotel.at .

The ÖHV is represented by the Presidium. The presidium consists of at least two people: a maximum of two presidents, a maximum of four vice-presidents and a finance officer. Furthermore, the presidium also includes the state chairmen of those federal states that do not have a president or a vice-president and are therefore not already represented in the presidium by the aforementioned functions. These presidium members are entitled to vote in the presidium.
