The Austrian Exchange Service Society is an Austrian agency promoting cooperation in the fields of education, science and research. The owner of the OeAD-GmbH is the Republic of Austria, the owner representative is the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research .

history

In 1961 the Austrian Student Abroad Service was founded and later renamed the Austrian Academic Exchange Service . Until 2008, the ÖAD worked in the legal form of an association whose members were the Austrian universities. In 2009, the OeAD law transformed the association into the Austrian Exchange Service Society with Limited Liability (OeAD-GmbH). The managing director of the OeAD-GmbH is Jakob Calice.

tasks and goals

The OeAD is an Austrian agency for international mobility and cooperation in education, science and research. The organization sees itself in its entire range of tasks as a consultant, promoter and as an information and service point for all activities and projects related to international cooperation in the field of education and science. She observes developments in the field of international research, education and training and participates in the discussion about future concepts for cooperation in these areas. It develops recommendations and measures, for example for the conception of new programs, and finally accompanies the corresponding implementation measures. Another task is to inform and raise public awareness of the importance and role of European and international cooperation.

The best-known education program administered by the OeAD is the EU education program Erasmus + for the education sector (until the end of 2013 with the sub-programs Comenius , Erasmus , Leonardo da Vinci and Grundtvig ). With its national agency, the OeAD-GmbH oversees the field of education in Austria - this includes school education, higher education, vocational training and adult education. In addition, the OeAD oversees internationally oriented mobility and cooperation programs such as CEEPUS and APPEA - the university cooperation program of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC), as well as the Austrian editing program with currently 97 locations worldwide. The programs range from theme-based grants and specific grants for specific regions to individual study and research areas. ARQA-VET, the Austrian reference point for quality in vocational training and the center for citizen science, the information and service point for researchers, citizens and experts from various fields, is also located at the OeAD.

The OeAD is also the legal entity for the preparatory courses at Austrian universities and participating universities of applied sciences in Vienna, Graz and Leoben.

There are 211 employees across Austria. The total budget of the OeAD for 2015 is EUR 59.95 million. Around 45.43 million euros are available for scholarship and funding programs.
